Simple video chats with Firefox browser

If you use Firefox as your browser you can now use it to have video chats with anyone (as long as they are using a Firefox, Chrome or Opera browser and you both have a camera and microphone) by just sending them an email link.

All you need is the latest version (35) of the Firefox browser installed on your PC, laptop or tablet, the “Hello” chat application is built in to it. There is no extra software to download and install unlike other video chat tools like Skype and you don’t need to set up an account or sign-in to use it. Just start a conversation by clicking on the “Hello” icon, send your friend a link by email and get them to click it. How simple is that!

Have a quick look at the video below to see more about it, just click on the image (opens in new window).

Have a chat

Firefox Hello iconTo start a video chat, just click on the “Hello” icon on the top bar of your browser and follow the instructions.

Whoever initiates the video chat has to do so from a Firefox browser but the person the other end can use either Firefox, Chrome or an Opera browser to pick up the call. As always, good old Internet Explorer does not support this yet. It works fine with Firefox on my Android tablet but isn’t yet supported on iPhones (I haven’t tried it on an iPad yet).

Have fun with it :o)
